Tree hugging
A poem from my archives
I love trees. Have I ever mentioned that? They are my favorite thing in the whole world. I know the term tree hugging is a name for something activists do. But really, I encourage you to actually go, wrap your arms around a tree. Say hello first. Chatter with the squirrels. But then give it a good squeeze. You’ll be better for it.
Tree Hugging
The best embrace—
arms around the steady sentry,
no need for introduction;
its name lies
in the earthy scent of bark,
in hours staring upward green and blue.
The wind rustles through its leaves,
an answer for your loneliness,
a whisper for your skin.
Feet on the grass,
firmly planted between its roots,
All is still, and you are known.

I love that final line. Sometimes I just can't even stand it thinking about how amazing trees will be when God restores the Earth. I mean, if they're this good NOW in our fallen world...!!!
